What keeps me coming back to my daily practice is waiting for the magic that happens when the painting reveals itself. It’s taken me a bit to learn to paint for myself, to trust the experience, and to believe in the audience. I like to get out of my own way and become the tool for the painting to happen.
My inspiration is the outdoors. The subject matter is always about color which is always about light. A transient moment captured. My images are the beach/pool culture of Southern California and the grandeur of the American West, the landscapes, skyscapes, flora/fauna and the legendary cowboy driven icons of the west. To these images I add my own dream images that help to capture a certain mood, an extra layer of anticipation.
I aim to bring a fresh, contemporary and whimsical perspective to each subject in a painting. Each mark, every brushstroke is deliberate and a reminder that I participated in this celebration of joy.
