I have always been fascinated by beauty and magic found in nature. In doing research for a the Creating Community Show “Inhale Land Stewardship for Cleaner Air”, (October 13, 2011, at the Younger Galleries), I became fascinated by “tree respiration” and the molecular level. Trees take in CO2 and exchange space within their cells by giving up water- thus emitting oxygen. The work I did attempted to show this interaction visually. I used the cellular level as a background pattern, simple drawings of trees, and dots to represent the exchange of energy from the tree into our environment. This small, secret level of interaction is always present and to me immensely compelling. In this new body of work, I have continued this work by looking for connections between plants, animals, humans and the forces of nature.
