Cassandra Tondro is an artist whose work encompasses several mediums. Because of concerns about the environment, she uses repurposed, upcycled and natural materials for her art, including leftover house paint, discarded magazines, trash, rust, contact leaf prints, and natural pigments and dyes.
She has developed innovative ways of creating her art and often relies on serendipity to obtain unique results. Paint is applied by walking on canvas wearing shoes with interesting treads, thinning the paint and pouring it over scrunched up canvas, pushing the canvas into puddles of wet paint and other unusual techniques.
In addition to painting, Tondro creates collages from found trash, leaf prints on paper and silk, and handwoven scarves using luxury yarns.
