Rachel McHugh
Rachel is a painter living in the Montrose foothills of Southern California with a BA in Fine Art and Design from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. After seeing how impressive and varied North American geography could be, she took up Plein Air painting to expand her practice. She now focuses on every definition of the word ‘landscape’, considering the geological, historical and socioeconomic context of each location chosen as subject matter.
Rachel’s work focuses on the universal deja vu; a deep history felt by those standing on the land where it happened. She explores our emotional connection to landscape through a desire for both familiarity and the anomalous.
